How do you wash and take care of linen clothing?
Linen is an incredibly versatile and easy-wearing fabric, but there are a few wash and care tips you can observe to increase the lifespan of your favourite pieces. It’s always recommended to first read the care instruction label on your linen pieces before you start washing. Linen can be both hand-washed or machine-washed, but whatever option you choose be sure to set your tap to lukewarm or cold water temperatures to preserve the colour, and use a mild soap or detergent. Turn your linen clothing inside out to iron while the linen is still a little damp, and if you come across any particularly stubborn wrinkles, lay a damp, light-colored cloth over your linen and run a warm iron on the steam setting across it. At the end of summer it’s important to store your linen clothes correctly so that they can be worn year after year. Keep your linen clothes folded as flat as possible to avoid wrinkling, in a cool, dry place.
What can I wear with a linen dress?
A linen dress can be worn on its own for a range of different occasions or settings, however they also work seamlessly styled back with other pieces from your wardrobe. In the warmer seasons you could layer your linen dress over the top of a lightweight t-shirt or tank top to bring added dimension or colourways to your look. Sandals or sneakers also work well with linen dresses, as do belts cinched at the waist to add definition or structure to your outfit. In the winter months you can use your linen dress as a base to layer monochromatic knits and outerwear, or leggings and tights with boots.
Should you iron linen?
Part of linen’s charm is its irregularity and natural creases, so it doesn’t need to be regularly ironed. However if you prefer your linen favourites be on the smooth side, make sure you use a good quality steam iron and iron while the garment is still a little damp. Fill a spray bottle with clean water and mist your piece lightly if it’s already dried.
