How to choose a winter knit?
When it comes to selecting a winter knit it’s best to look for good quality fibres that will last – think merino wool and cashmere. It’s important to take into consideration how and where you’ll be wearing your winter knit, so choose a colour and style that will pair back easily with your other wardrobe essentials. If you’re in search of a cosy, off-duty knit you can veer towards a slightly more oversized silhouette with a turtleneck or mock neck. Conversely, if the knit is intended for a slightly more formal setting opt for a finer knit such as a crew neck cashmere jumper, as it can be layered or dressed up for occasions.
How do you wash and care for knitwear?
Knitwear is one of the most delicate pieces in our wardrobe, so it’s important to wash and store them carefully to preserve their quality and fit. Start by reading the care instructions on your garment before cleaning, and make sure to keep your knitwear folded in a draw or shelf – hanging will stretch the garment and compromise its shape. Wash your knitwear by hand (or on a gentle hand wash cycle in your washing machine) and use a mild wool wash-specific detergent. Try to avoid wringing or spinning your knitwear; instead gently press with a towel to absorb the water and dry flat in a shaded area.
How to style a crew neck sweater?
A good crew neck sweater is a winter wardrobe essential, and a versatile styling piece for the season. Often made from cotton, wool or cashmere, a crew neck sweater is a pull-on style defined by its round neckline. Dress up your piece by layering over a collared button-down shirt in a complementary colourway and slim fit jeans in a dark wash, or pair with a long-line fitted blazer for a business casual look. Crew necks can also work styled with skirts and dresses – as most crewnecks are cut to sit at the waist they can work to add definition to an otherwise shapeless dress. Layer over a full-length silk slip or pair with a denim skirt and cotton tee for a comfortable weekend ensemble.
